Global metal markets have a reputation for being notoriously fast-moving, with prices for steel, aluminium and copper – all used in vehicle manufacturing – changing daily. We wouldn’t advise getting caught up too much on watching the metal markets and for most it isn’t something to worry about. The other influences below however ARE in your control, so it’s important to understand how they can change the price of your scrap car.

SIZE AND WEIGHT OF YOUR SCRAP CAR OR VAN

These factors, as you can imagine, are kind of obvious. Typically, the more your car or van weighs (tonnage-weight), the more money a scrap dealer will want to pay for it. Therefore, if you’re looking to scrap a Ford Transit, you can expect to be paid more than you would for a Vauxhall Corsa.

PARTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED

Scrap car dealers will price your car based upon it being complete, so if you remove small parts or major components such as the engine or catalytic converter, expect to see the price reduced.

If you remove certain parts, such as the wheels or battery, it will make collecting your scrap car more difficult. This may incur additional costs, or in a worst-case scenario prevent your car from being collected entirely!
