How To Detect a Faulty Mass Airflow Sensor

The mass airflow meter is an air flow sensor, also known as a MAF sensor and is an integral component of a vehicle’s electric engine management system. It can be found in the plastic housing between the engine and air filter. The role of an air flow sensor is to measure the volume and density of air entering the engine. If your air flow sensor is defective it can lead to a variety of engine related problems which restricts engine performance.

Symptoms of a faulty mass air flow sensor

  • Very difficult to start engine or turn over
  • Engine stalls shortly after starting
  • Engine drags while under load or idle
  • Jerking experienced when accelerating
  • Engine hiccups

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms take your vehicle to a qualified professional who will be able to diagnose the issue. If you require a replacement air flow meter we can help.
