Police in Southend are on the hunt for a ‘lunatic’ spotted hitting 134mph on a mobility scooter late Saturday evening in Southend Town Centre according to local news outlet - Southend News Network.

In a story published on its site an Essex Police spokesman said: ‘At 10.04pm on Saturday, the fixed safety camera on Queensway in Southend Town Centre submitted a report to say that a driver had been clocked at 134 mph – no registration details were visible at the time of the offence.’

‘After looking at the photos, it appears that the speeding offence was committed by a masked lunatic of an individual wearing a denim jacket and Union Jack swim shorts.’
‘It’s clear that the mobility scooter had been modified in some way as these vehicles are not usually capable of these speeds. Anyone with any information about this particular scooter needs to contact police as a matter of urgency.’

The Southend News Network was contacted by an anonymous caller believed to have ties to the local Mob Mod (Mobility Modification) scene and is using his garage to undertake illegal work on the side to meet demand and keep the business afloat. The illegally modified mobility scooters can reach incredible speeds – as the story makes clear and some are fitted with quadruple nitrous tanks making them substantially nippier than the 10mph max they would normally achieve when used by the elderly on the seafront and around town. Some of them are being fitted with parts that are typically reserved for light aircraft.

Southend Council is now taking action by getting an Enforcement Notice in an attempt to prevent Mob Mod cruise meetings from taking place over the summer months.
Whatever the outcome of this story you have to admit the Union Jack wearing mystery rider is incredibly ballsy! It’s almost too unbelievable to be true...
