Crash. Bang. Wallop! This is what happens if you rent a £210,000 Ferrari supercar and think that you can drive it in the same way as a regular road car. The three car incident took place at 7pm in Luton, Bedfordshire last Sunday and resulted in the 458 Italia being written off after colliding heavily with a wall and two other vehicles; a Vauxhall Astra and a VW Passat.
It took all of three minutes for the assessors to write off the 64-plate supercar which had just 4,600 miles on the clock. Whilst the driver remains unidentified it has been discovered that the Ferrari had been booked for the weekend for a wedding from car hire company Prestige Lifestyle. The driver had paid a £5,000 deposit and an £850 a day hire fee per day.
This incident raises the issue of hiring a supercar when it is likely that the driver has never driven or experienced something as powerful before. We are big fans of track day experiences and believe these to be a more enjoyable (and safer) experience that doesn’t jeopardise fellow road user’s safety as in this case.
It looks like it will one very expensive wedding as the deposit will likely cover only cosmetic damage and not ploughing it into a wall…
