Current BTCC champion Colin Turkington and all-time race winner Jason Plato have teamed up at BMR to challenge for the 2015 championship.
Plato and Turkington will drive Volkswagen Passat CCs and will form a formidable quartet alongside Aron Smith and team manager Warren Scott. Alain Menu and Jack Goff make way for last year’s championship winner and runner-up.
It was of little surprise to those in touring car circles that Turkington and Plato would be involved in the team announcement. Turkington had left West Surrey Racing just last week and Plato was without a team with the championship launch drawing ever closer. After seeing Turkington speak so enthusiastically of the growth of the sport at Autosport International in January it would have been a shock had he not been involved this year.
Plato and Turkington bring with them not only championship expertise but also highly-skilled engineers in Carl Faux and Kevin Berry. Plato worked with Faux at MG whilst Berry was Turkington’s engineer at West Surrey Racing for the last two years including the championship run. Berry also worked alongside Plato back in 2012 at Triple Eight so it’ll be interesting to see how everybody comes together and whether or not they can hit the ground running.
The announcement has already gained an enormous response from BTCC enthusiasts and was unveiled from the official BTCC Youtube channel as well as Twitter and other social platforms. See it for yourself below:
